Hot off the Press – Impressions of Modernity in 1920s China

“Hot off the Press – Impressions of Modernity in 1920s China” is currently on view at MARKK – Museum am Rothenbaum until 12 July 2026. The exhibition presents, for the first time, selections from MARKK’s globally unique collection of Chinese prints, many of which arrived in Hamburg between 1927 and 1932 through one of the earliest German-Chinese research collaborations. Focusing on the rise of modern printing centres in China during the 1920s and 1930s, the exhibition explores how new print technologies transformed art, commerce, communication, and visual culture, shaping a modern visual language whose impact extended far beyond the art world. Further information is available via the MARKK website.
