In the course of registration with the European Association for Asian Art and Archaeology (EAAA), the members provide their contact information, certain personal details, and information related to their education/profession/position.
This information is checked and used to grant EAAA membership to individuals, to maintain the proper functioning of the EAAA as well as this website and for member support. We are a non-commercial, non-profit, academic organization and we value and respect the privacy of our members. We strive to collect and use the least amount of information possible to provide the best service to our members.
Registration on this website and being granted active (premium) membership status with the EAAA:
By submitting the registration form, you create a “Free Account” on the EAAA website. This does not allow you to log into the website or receive emails from the EAAA, it is just a “placeholder”. The form will be reviewed by our board members and after your application has been approved, you will be prompted via email to pay the membership fee via a bank transfer (we currently don’t accept online payments such as Paypal/credit cards but we intend to in the future).
Once we receive payment, your account will be upgraded to “Premium Individual” or “Premium Student”, depending on your status, meaning active membership and full access to the Membership area. If you opt-in to our bulletin, newsletter and special offers, you will also start receiving emails from us.
By becoming an active (premium) member on the EAAA website, you agree to have your contact information published in the Members List, available in the Membership Area to active members only.
The Membership Area also houses an online forum – a space where professionals and experts can exchange knowledge, data, and experience. Please read our Terms and Conditions for more information.
RECEIVING EMAILS FROM THE EAAA
Only active EAAA members with paid membership for the current calendar year receive information from EAAA by email.
The EAAA relies on online services to contact its members, stay paper-free and diminish operating costs. The EAAA sends emails via the 3rd-party email service Mailchimp.
Of the information provided to the EAAA in the course of registration, only the member’s name, last name and email address will be exported to the EAAA’s Mailchimp account for the purposes of contacting members via electronic mail. The EAAA’s Mailchimp account is managed internally by a team member.
The emails that members receive contain updates and reports from the EAAA, news about upcoming events and other similar subjects aligned with the purpose of the EAAA. We estimate that the number of emails sent from us will be 1-2 per month at the most.
The rest of the information you provide us with during registration (address, nationality, gender, fields of study/interest etc.) will never be transferred to any third parties and will not be used for personalized marketing.
ADVERTISING AND PROMOTIONS
We will never sell, transfer or give your information to third parties or services (other than Mailchimp and only in the scope and for reasons stated in the “Receiving emails from the EAAA” section).
However, members can choose to receive promotions and special membership offers supplied to the EAAA by third parties. Such offers are related to the field of Asian art and archaeology and have in the past included discounted subscriptions to magazines related to Asian art, book discounts from scholarly publishers etc. The EAAA will not give 3rd parties direct access to members’ contact information but we may send emails/promotions on behalf of 3rd parties if their offers are deemed relevant and useful for our member base. These materials will only be sent via email to the members who have opted-in to this service in the registration form.
