The School of Art + Art History seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor in nineteenth and/or twentieth century art. The faculty member will teach a 2-3 load of courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, including advanced courses in the field of specialty and (as needed) an introductory survey and/or general education courses, and contribute service to the university, the community, and the profession. Possibility of up to one additional year (nine-months) based on the program’s needs.

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Art History or a related field, or ABD nearing completion of the PhD
  • Evidence of success in promoting an environment that advances diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Promise of excellence in research
  • Ability to teach courses on modern and contemporary art

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in hand
  • Ability to teach courses on topics such as African-American art, arts of the African diaspora, or history of photography that complements current offerings of the art history program.
  • Promising record of publications
  • Teaching experience as the instructor of record at the university level
  • Successful experience with innovative, cross-disciplinary, or digital curricula
