These lectures are part of the Heidelberg-Getty East Asian Workshop Series. The project is made possible with support from the Getty Foundation through its Connecting Art Histories initiative. In his Friday talk, Timon Screech (Nichibunken, Kyoto) offers his perspective on encountering objects from the vantage of the expected, planned features of a research program. On Saturday, Screech, a returning faculty-mentor in the project, addresses unexpected encounters with materiality. Both presentations are aimed at providing insight into the world of hands-on research with original objects.
