Institution: Museum Rietberg, Zürich, Switzerland
From early summer 2021, the museum is complementing the analogue experience of its remarkable collection by providing an opportunity to explore Buddhist art and cultures in digital space. Viewers can explore the objects as artworks in their own right, or take them as a starting point for exciting “stories” that tell of the Buddha, religious practice, and Buddhist teachings as well as Buddhism beyond Asia or controversial topics within Buddhism.
The opportunity for users to interact creatively with the app and expand on its contents independently plays a crucial part, as well as the concept of inclusion and accessibility: the app is screenreader ready, the fonts and page contrasts can be adjusted for better readability, and a comprehensive summary to Buddhism is provided in simple language.
