NYU Shanghai is currently seeking applications for a position at the level of Assistant or Associate Clinical Professor (non tenure eligible) in the Humanities or Social Sciences. The successful candidate will divide their time between administration of the required first-year undergraduate course Global Perspectives on Society (mainly in the fall semester) and teaching up to two courses in their discipline. GPS forms the foundation of the humanities and social science core curriculum at NYU Shanghai. It is devoted to examining central questions in society through the study of key concepts and texts, and developing the reading, writing, and critical thinking skills central to a liberal arts education.

Lectures for GPS are delivered by core faculty members at NYU Shanghai in the Fall semester. Recitations are led by postdoctoral fellows who teach 2 recitation sections of approximately 18 students each. During the Fall semester, the successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating recitation sections, assignments, grading and course assessment, with a view to achieving the pedagogical goals of the course. They will also be responsible for developing pedagogical strategies for the recitations in coordination with the postdoctoral fellows, and for operating the course learning management system. In the Spring semester, the successful candidate will manage the hiring of new postdoctoral fellows. The candidate will also teach up to 2 courses, ideally related to the NYU Shanghai core curriculum.

Terms of employment at NYU Shanghai are comparable to NYU New York and other U.S. institutions.

Candidates should have exceptional administrative skills and a strong interest and commitment to teaching a liberal arts curriculum. This is a Full-Time Continuing Contract Faculty (FTCC) position. Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. by the time of appointment in September 2022. Typical appointments are on 3 year teams. While we seek applications from candidates with an active research profile, successful candidates will be hired on the basis of teaching and service.
