Virtual Exhibition: Discovering Chosŏn Korean Potters in Tokugawa Japan

Stories of Clay: Discovering Chosŏn Korean Potters in Tokugawa Japan is a digital history project that combines the study of heirloom pieces and sherds, together with documentary evidence, in order to trace the lives and works of Korean potters in southwestern Japan after Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s invasions. You are invited to visit an online exhibition about the experiences of captured Chosŏn Korean potters, who were taken to Japan during the Imjin War.

The exhibition has been curated by Seung Yeon Sang and Rebekah Clements as part of the Aftermath of the East Asian War of 1592-1598 project at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. The exhibition website includes original research considered together with current scholarship, downloadable worksheets for educators, and an ongoing video series of expert talks. More videos will be added to the website in the coming months.
